Excellently placed on charming Chau Long, the character of this old French terraced house is matched by the charisma that radiates from the owner.
An understated cafe with an outside space where you can watch the microcosm of Hanoi street life that persists relentlessly outside is exactly what Chau Long Street needs. Ms. Nhung has been running Ngo Quan for four years, which is apparently more than enough time to cultivate a loyal following of fans from across the city. The building itself is over 100 years old, according to Ms. Nhung, and she pays as much attention to keeping it looking dashing as she does to her magnificent drinks.
‘How is the egg coffee?!’ She demands, knowing that the answer will be positive. ‘My avocado smoothies are equally as delicious!’ She adds proudly (and pompously). Ms. Nhung personally filters the water that she uses for her tasty coffee, flavorsome smoothies and the impressive array of traditional tea options. The egg coffee, which is stylishly served in spherical globe glasses, competes with many of the more famous versions found in the old quarter. With so many things to look at on this bustling street, it’s easy to miss Ngo Quan. But next time you’re in the area, keep your eyes peeled and settle down for a meticulously prepared beverage that won’t disappoint.
