Smoothies and Juices steps in to provide a healthy alternative to tea and coffee – as well as an excuse for us to use loads of hilarious fruit puns.
With plenty of bad apple cafes using synthetic syrups to give the illusion of flavor, it is sometimes tempting to just give up on Hanoi’s smoothie scene. But Smoothies and Juices has sensibly chosen to take advantage of Vietnam’s rich selection of delicious fresh produce: comparing the Starbucks-esque mango fruit blasts (or whatever they are called these days) to the freshly prepared liquid delights here is like comparing apples and oranges.
The menu selection is astounding. Just a few months ago this place had no less than 3 monstrous menus, which would have driven anyone bananas, so it’s a good thing that they’ve cut down their menu to just one making cherry-picking your beverage much easier. You may have to ask for less sugar (ít đường) or even no sugar (không đường) but in general the quality is high and the prices are reasonable. As long as things stay fresh then we are unlikely to see it all go pear-shaped.
There are actually a bunch of these around town but we’ve chosen to focus on the French Quarter branch. Situated on stately Tran Hung Dao Street, this Smoothies and Juices occupies a handsome colonial mansion that has been attractively dressed up inside and out. Vibrant green outside and open brick within coupled with good air-con will keep you as cool as a cucumber (yes- they also have a few cucumber drinks).
