A truly hidden spot boasting a view over an unknown Vietnamese neighbourhood.
To Café, or Tổ Café with proper Vietnamese accents, may just be one of our most difficult cafés to find so far. It’s in a network of alleys that don’t all seem to be on the map, and the new constructions nearby only make it harder to pinpoint. To make matters worse – or better, we are Hanoi Hideaway after all – the café’s opening hours are not particularly convenient, so you may find yourself at a locked gate. For reference, the opening hours at the time of writing are 15:00 – 23:00, but those times could vary a little.
If you are lucky enough to find this place, head upstairs past a few floors of apartments. Seating is located on a two-tiered rooftop overlooking the surrounding buidings. Most of the tables, chairs and sofas are made of upcycled wooden crates but are surpsigingly comfortable with the addition of cushions and blankets. In general, the space toes the line between minimal and still under construction. It’s in a quiet area and is ideal for reading a book or chatting with friends. It’s particularly atmospheric in the evening when all of the fairy lights are turned on. There’s also a pretty good selection of drinks, including coffee, tea, smoothies, matcha drinks and chocolate flavored drinks.
So, if you would like to make getting your next coffee a bit more challenging, or you’d like an excuse to get lost in a relatively unknown Hanoian neighbourhood, head to To Café.
